on the hunt.

one of the most intimidating thing about thinking about marriage is finding a place to live.

prices are ridiculous, rooms are itty bitty, neighborhoods are sketchy, and my strong desire for a washer/dryer doesn't make it any easier.

we've looked at several places and nothing could quite beat this one..

it was off of 33rd south and 23rd east. perfect! right in the middle of my parents' house and B's! and it was $550 a month. something we could afford. so we went to see it....
we should have known when the lady said, "walk behind the shed in the back and the backdoor is open."

and oh how i wish we would have taken a picture.

"the cozy fireplace?" an old wood burning furnace that wouldn't heat a small bathroom.
"living room with a view?" a nice view of the old shed that would blow if one of the big bad wolves came.
"the intimate bedroom?" a bedroom that no joke would barely fit a twin bed, not to mention all of our clothes/shoes.
"friendly neighbors?" friendly neighbors who we could hear talking from the shed outside.
"a new shower." yeah, the new shower was nice.

but what they didn't mention? THE SHOWER WAS IN THE KITCHEN!

i'm not joking or exaggerating. the kitchen counter was a foot away from the shower door. i could be in the shower shampooing my hair and stirring a brownie mix at the same time. and the bedroom had a shower curtain for a door. and we never even saw a toilet. AND THEY WERE ASKING $550 A MONTH!

that was the first apartment we looked at.

luckily, since then we've gotten some better options and have one that i am SUPER excited about. the shower is actually in the bathroom, with a toilet! i never thought that i'd even have to question that.

  1. that's hilarious! i'm pretty sure those living conditions should be illegal...

i hope you find something nice!

almost 3 years of marriage and i've never had a washer or dryer. it was my only demand moving to new jersey (because i knew i wouldn't be able to use my mom and dads on the weekends anymore), but alas, that didn't work out. coin laundry it is! :)

isn't it all exciting though? don't stress out about all the to-do's. just enjoy it! you're getting married!

  2. a shower in the kitchen could make your morning routine go so much faster! Think of it, you could make pancakes from the shower every single morning!!

I personally think you should go for that apartment. Toilets are for the weak anyways...

  3. Hey my bathroom might be in my kitchen in New York and more importantly I might have a curtain separating my bedroom from the rest of the apartment!! haha And I'll be paying over $1,000 for it! ha But really anything is fun when you are together.

  4. Have you looked at Cherry Hill Apartments? I wouldn't recommend it, but that's where our first apartment was. It was ghetto! And we didn't have laundry, we had to go to the laundromat every week. We ended up moving out because there was mold growing on the wall and the apartment management didn't care or do anything about it. I thought it was a bit of a health hazard. Anyway, unfortunately if you want cheap rent, don't expect much! Jess and Rob lived there too! You have to start somewhere.
