this one's for all you laxers... mainly mer, cause she asked for it.
we had two games this saturday! first, we were supposed to play PEPPERDINE on saturday morning. BUT because their Mormon coach quit, they saw no need to come to UTAH to play LACROSSE. (and for other reasons, like not having enough girls to make a team). that was a bummer. it's always fun to play teams from outside of utah, in utah.
so INSTEAD we played a jumble of players. mainly alumni from past BYU squads. it was great to see girls that i played with the last two years and girls i idolized in high school when i went up against them. (we all badly missed those of you reading this that weren't there... mer, christine, emhill, jessie, dantz...) the alumni team was also comprised of some girls from Utah State who are trying to get a team together. WHO KNEW?
END SCORE: alumni 4, BYU 13.
later that night we were scheduled to play the U on their brand new lacrosse turf field. and OF COURSE it started to RAIN. we hate rain. but, luckily it just sprinkled on and off and we were all so pumped to play, which was good because we literally had NO warm-up time. words to describe this game: dirty, scrappy, angry, wet, slippery, loud, and ugly... at least in the first half. in the second half it was still dirty and angry and scrappy... but we found a good rhythm and managed to score 7 goals in less than 10 minutes. the refs were more than horrible. i wish i could explain this better... HORRRRIBLE. shooting space didn't exist. my draws were illegal (even though i've been doing them the same way for seven years now..), checks to the head were now fine, charges were a thing of the past, across the body penalties became behind the body penalties (ask anna) and yelling at the refs was allowed (which was fine with me, both sides were pretty bad).
END SCORE: utah 6, BYU 16.
which we were very happy about.
its safe to say, the rivalry between BYU and UTAH exists in women's lacrosse. in a big way. i know a lot of girls from BYU (i may or may not be included) now hate UTAH almost as much, if not more than, CSU (who we definitely HATE). and i'm pretty sure the UTAH girls hate us equally as much. it was a dirty, name-calling, ref-screaming, pushing-on-the-line, shove-it kind of game.
winning these kind of games is always a great feeling.
next up: undefeated westminster.
place: westminster field.
time: 5:30 pm.
can't wait.
Nothing can even come near to my hatred for CSU. I don't care about the Utah girls except that they now think we are a bunch of brats who foul, when really they just need to know the rules. ha Awful game really. Worse refs I've ever seen. And I let them know. ha
ReplyDeleteI want to come to your games! Let us know when the Westmini one is!
